2 in a Row!

Mark it down….Tim Lincecum has won his second NL Cy Young Award and second straight. The guy who is nicknamed “The Freak” only compiled 15 wins which was the lowest of the pitchers who were voted for the award(Harn, Vasquez, Carpenter & Wainwright) but he had better numbers in the statistical categories(WHIP, FIP, BABIP). Mr. Lincecum is the first Cy Young repeat award winner since Randy Johnson did it. Randy Johnson, who was Lincecum’s teammate this year in San Francisco, and Sandy Koufax are the only other pitchers to win consecutive NL Cy Young Awards. Read More…

Bills Fire Jauron, Looking at Shanahan?

Only one day after the firing of Dick Jauron, it seems the Buffalo Bills’ have their man in their sights and that guy is Mike Shanahan. Jauron has said that he was “blindsided” by the firing but his team has been blindsided by every team in the league it seems because the lowly Bills compiled a 24-33 since Dick was hired by former general manager Marv Levy in 2006 to be the head coach. LeBron Honoring MJ

LeBron James has decided to now switch numbers next year from #23 to #6 in honor of Michael Jordan. James has worn the number 23 since being a sophomore in high school but feels that everyone should pay tribute to probably the greatest basketball player ever. The news broke of this after the Cavs win against Miami on Thursday night during the postgame press conference.

James said he’s willing to make the switch and he wants to start a petition to get every player in the league to give up their number #23 like he is. The reigning MVP of the league says he will switch next season to No. 6, which he wore on the U.S. Olympic team and wears as a practice jersey for the past 2 years with the Cavaliers. James said he wears No. 6 because his second-favorite player is Julius Erving. I find this good that he is going to pay homeage to Jordan but I feel that this is almost a marketing ploy from Reebok or Nike (whoever makes the NBA jerseys) to create more revenue. I also think that if you can get the rest of the league to sign the petition and abide by the rules then I’m all for letting the #23 not be worn by any other players but I think MJ hasn’t done as much as the likes of Jackie Robinson to earn his number be retired forever.

Start/Sit Em’ is BACK, Week 10 Edition!

With Week 10 getting an early start tonight on NFL Network between the San Francisco 49ers(3-5) and the Chicago Bears(4-4), I thought I’d get a head start on the picks this week. So here’s the ManGenius picks’ of the week…. Read More…

Super Bowl 44 Halftime Act is Who?

None other than The Who will be granted the honors this year of entertaining millions of viewers around the world with as much rock ‘n’ roll as they can jam in to 12 minutes. Jimmy Traina dropped the news at the top of Hot Clicks today on the Sports Illustrated website.  As you’ll remember, Bruce “The Boss” Springsteen took the stage and stole it during Super Bowl 43 and gave us his own 12 minutes of shut up rock ‘n’ roll that will be hard to top. Not only did he make everyone want to start to dance in the dark but his energy along with the E Street Band brought something that the halftime show really hasn’t seen-  Charisma. So hopefully this year we “Won’t Be Fooled Again” and “Who Are You” will be sung by “My Generation. What are your thoughts on this halftime show pick? Certainly its gotta be better than the pop fest that occurred back at Super Bowl 35.

He’s BACK!

After a very disappointing and unexpected winless start for the Tennessee Titans, Head Coach Jeff Fisher is switching quarterbacks this Sunday to try to bring some life back into his squad. Being benched is the 38 year old Kerry Collins, who has thrown an interception in each of the first 6 games for Tennessee and is only completing 54 percent of his passes this season. Taking his place is the 2006 Offensive Rookie of the Year, ex-Longhorn Vince Young, who has played in only two games this season but will take the reigns once again as the signal caller for Jeff Fisher. Week 7 Start/Sit ‘Em

So last week I let you guys manage your teams and make the start/sit ‘em calls for yourself(how did that work out for ya?) because I felt like taking a Bye week like the Seattle Seahawks passing offense. Some great matchups this week can hopefully create some drama that is comparable to last weeks contests. Heres your Start/Sit ‘Em for week number 7….

Quarterbacks: START- Jay Cutler- Coming off his first 300 yd passing game this season and having 2 or more touchdowns in the past four weeks look for Cutler to slice up to the Bengals shaky secondary. Not to mention that Cincy has lost their leading pass rusher in Antwan Odom.

SIT- Chad Henne- The Saints held a red hot Eli Manning to pedestrian numbers last week and have only allowed one quarterback to pass for multiple touchdowns this year, which was Kevin Kolb way back in Week 2. Mr. Henne was fabulous in Week 5 against the “Gang Green” Jets by throwing for 241 passing yards and two touchdowns, but New Orleans are tied for the NFL lead with 11 interceptions.

Running Backs: START- Larry Johnson- In his past five games against the Chargers, Johnson has four touchdowns and three games over 100 yards rushing. Even though Johnson hasn’t scored a touchdown this year and is still looking for his first 100-yard game, he is coming off his best game of the season with 23 carries for 83 yards at Washington. San Diegos’ rush defense is No. 27 in run the league and have given up seven touchdowns on the season.

SIT- Reggie Bush- Bush scored a touchdown against the Giants, but Reggie has just 12 carries in his past two games. He also hasn’t been a huge factor in the passing game with only 15 catches on the season. The Dolphins are No. 3 in run defense and have only allowed four touchdowns to opposing running backs. So if you have a New Orleans tailback just steer clear and keep them riding the pine.

Wide Recievers- START- Mario Manningham- Arizona has allowed over 100 yards and a touchdown to Mike Sims-Walker, Reggie Wayne and Andre Johnson, and Pierre Garcon is the other wide receiver to score against the Cardinals this season. Manningham has gotten off to a hot start this season by collecting almost 400 yards and has found the endzone on 4 different occasions, so look for him to find the endzone against the Cardinals.

SIT- Braylon Edwards- The Raiders secondary hasn’t played that great this season, but either has Edwards plus he should still see a lot of Nnamdi Asomugha this week(who could be the best cover corner in the NFL). Also with Mark Sanchez hitting the rookie wall (one touchdown, eight interceptions and a lost fumble the past three games), Braylon could have trouble getting the ball.

Hopefully these tips can turn your team around in week number 7 as we hit the half way point in most fantasy leagues. Good luck in your matchups this week and May the sports be with you!!

Stop the Guarantees…

I bring this topic up today because a certain football player for a  certain team that is and has been horrible for the past three years suddenly has an epiphany after 6 games that they are without  a doubt going to make the playoffs. Please note that his team is the Oakland Raiders, who are 2-4 on the season and are in 3rd place in the crummy AFC West, and could possibly lose their coach for a few games. Now Richard Seymour you must realize that you don’t have the luxuries of Tom Brady as your quarterback or the mastermind Bill Belichick in his lucky sweatshirt calling the shots anymore. You my friend got shipped out into the Hitler(Al Davis) led Black Hole, where careers go and die, out in the great west. Read More…

Blown Calls Getting Outrageous….

Officiating in the NBA is and always will be horrid but how bout the umpiring so far in this MLB Postseason? It has been dismal. I know missed calls are apart of sports since the start of time and that’s what makes the game so special but over the past 3 years its been getting a little out of hand. All the blatant blown calls that have been happening is just outrageous and for some reason the commissioners of the major sports leagues still seem to pamper and stick up for the referees, while act like nothing happened as they proceed with no repercussions against the referees. The referees get paid for a job to do and when they miss a call in my eyes that’s not doing your job and I think they should be punished severely. Read More…

Behind the Scenes…

Everyone always say that it takes 11 players to work as one to be successful in the NFL but I have found that a few teams have acquired their own one man that has turned an aspect of their team into a successful factor which has led to their winning record. Lets start in the Mile High city where the Broncos are undefeated at a 5-0 mark, and yes i said the Broncos are UNDEFEATED…and most of the credit has been given to play of quarterback Kyle Orton and the superb coaching of the witty Josh McDaniels, which it should be, but I feel there has been a man who has single handedly turned them into a winning team.

His name is Mike Nolan, who was the former suit wearing head coach of the San Francisco 49ers and defensive coordinators for Brian Billick, Al Groh, and Norv Turner. Dever fans you should be sending thank you cards to the 49ers for firing Nolan and giving him the opprotunity to come to Denver, because he has turned your porous defense into a wrecking crew in as little as 5 weeks. Nolan has the Broncos playing like a steel curtain and better than the 2006 Denver Defense, when they won five of their first six and held opponents to 44 points. This year’s new 3-4 defensive look led by the relentless Elvis Dumervil has held opponents to a league-low 43. For the Broncos being maybe the surprise team of the year, here’s to you Coach Mike Nolan.
